David Thomson - "Colourful Christmas" - November 2017

Home Counties National Demonstrator David Thomson made our club evening by doing a superb demonstration based on the Colours of Christmas.

His imaginative designs, containers, monochromatic colour harmonies, perfect choice of flowers and foliage adorned the stage.

David has a very natural and easy way of presenting his arrangements and is really interesting to listen to, along with being great fun, which Ann French commented on in her vote of thanks.

Due to a last minute program change, we were very thankful that David agreed to stepped in and demonstrate to us, we had a brilliant evening.

That evening was also a well attended fund-raising evening by means of a donated scarf and jewellery sale, along with a cake and gift raffle. Some of our members donated home-made delicious biscuits to accompany the refreshments too.

The end of evening raffle was very popular, as everyone wanted to take one of David's displays home.

It was the perfect start to our Christmas Season

Alan Smith - "Autumn Glory" - October 2017

We hope everybody enjoyed immersing themselves in "Autumn Glory" at this October's meeting.

Alan Smith delivered a glorious demonstration which was just perfect for this autumnal season, his choice of titles, designs, flowers, colour harmonies and variation of foliage were faultless.

Alan is a NAFAS demonstrator, renowned for his talent, skill and not to mention his infectious humour, which kept our attention all through the evening. Would love to see "The Three Degrees" if that should ever return.

His talk was also full of beneficial tips and advice for us. Naturally we all wanted to take a display home with us.

We do hope he visits us again soon.

Elizabeth Wait - "The World's a Stage" - September 2017

You can see some more photographs by clicking the picture:

At our meeting in September we were lucky enough to have a memorable demonstration given by Area Demonstrator, Elizabeth Wait. Entitled "The Worlds a Stage".

Elizabeth arranged the flowers so naturally and accompanied each design with her stories relating to her time in amateur dramatics, along with well known theatre productions.

Her choice of flowers, complementary colours, foliage and textures were perfect and varied styles of displays, inspired.

A very enjoyable evening.

You can see some more photographs from the Abbey by clicking the picture:

Last week club members Rekha Naidoo and Jan White were very privileged to be invited to arrange the flower displays at the High Altar, in Westminster Abbey, for the celebration of Corpus Christi.

Truly, a memorable experience for them.

Theresa Rodrigues - "Musicals on Tour" - June 2017

You can see some photographs of the evening by clicking the picture:

At our June meeting the very talented Theresa Rodrigues escorted us on a magical musical extravaganza, with her demonstration entitled "Musicals on Tour".

Theresa's choice of titles covered every type of show, from the traditional, magical and powerful, to modern music. All time favourites like "Wizard of Oz" and "Sound of Music" transported us to the stages and the "Phantom of the Opera" simply blew us away.

Obviously, we just had to sing along to the music that was accompanying the displays.

The whole evening was great fun and naturally the raffle was very popular. We also held a 50/50 raffle to boost club funds and Lorraine was the lucky winner of that, as you can see from her photograph.

We would all like to congratulate club member Theresa Rodrigues on her fantastic acheivements at this year's Chelsea Flower Show.

Theresa was awarded a Gold Medal for her stunning creation "In Suspense" class D.

Her superb talent and imaginative skills created an arrangement that also won Best In Show, Floral Art 2nd Session.

The trophy for this is a beautiful hand crafted box by "Linley", the lid has a marquetry design of a Gertrude Jekyll Sketch. Theresa said that she felt very honoured to receive such a beautiful piece of art work, and will treasure it.

Julie Woods - Cocktail Evening - May 2017

Our May club evening was blessed with warm weather, which was very suitable for a "Cocktail Evening".

The waitress serving the intoxicating delights was the talented Area Demonstrator Julie Woods. Julie is a demonstrator for both the Home Counties and the East of England areas of NAFAS as well as Vice Chairman on the National Education Committee.

Julie's designs and titles are inspired by the book entitled "Hollywood Cocktails", refreshments that are famously included in the Hollywood films. The flowers were beautiful and suited each little "tipple", colours were stunning and lots of the foliage came from her own extensive personal garden.

We were all "stirred" by the presentation and many members were luck enough to win the delights in the end of evening raffle.

Emily Broomhead - In Print - April 2017

You can see some photographs of the evening by clicking the picture:

This month we had a outstanding evening when National demonstrator Emily Broomhead reminded us of the wonderful childhood stories by Beatrix Potter.

Emily is the daughter of a florist and has grown up loving flowers. This was very apparent by her brilliant floral interpretations of the stories. Her styles of arranging were varied and stunning, choices of flowers perfect for each title.

A very enjoyable evening was had by all and we wish her every success when she competes in Barbados, in June.

Kathy Stangaard - The Sound of Bow Bells - March 2017

You can see some photographs of the evening by clicking the picture:

We certainly spent a fabulous evening listening to "The Sounds Of Bow Bells" with our tour guide, Area demonstrator and National Speaker, Kathy Stangaard.

Kathy hails from the East End of London, her relaxed way of presenting transported us into the colourful atmosphere and ways of "Cockney" life, it was full of fun and entertainment.

The arrangements depicted "cockney slang" starting off with "Apples and Pears", Pearly Kings and Queens (dont throw out pearl shirt buttons - there is a shortage). We had a window from St Mary-le-Bow church that houses the famous Bow Bells, a traditional Hogarth curved design put Jellied Eels on the menu.

Sadly it was time to finish, so our tour concluded on Bethnal Green Road E2 where the best "Pie and Liquor" shop is situated.

The whole evening was dedicated to the incredible and varied characters that make Cockney London and the way their world has changed through the years.

Every arrangement was "Lawd Above! Beautiful Innit", well worth a "Butchers Hook" (look). We would all love to see her again.

Yvonne Tan - Sunny Holidays - January 2017

You can see some photographs of the evening by clicking the picture:

Last Wednesday the very talented Yvonne Tan transported us away from the English winter to the sights, sounds and the warm sultry heat of Singapore and surrounding countries.

In her very individual way Yvonne took us to the famous Jurong bird park where the feathered friends entertain the visitors.

We stepped into Hong Kong where she walked us up 268 steps, to reach the beautiful statue of Tian Tan or Big Buddha and take in the fabulous view.

Throughout her demonstration Yvonne explained the certain aspects and observations of the culture of the countries. The arrangements were outstanding and her use of "props", rich colours and choice of high quality flowers enhanced her work.

She is amazing as her many talents such as painting, cooking and craft skills shone through, it was truly a taste of the Orient.
