Rose-Marie Tree - "Here it comes again"
12th December 2012....

With Christmas only a few days away, we celebrated early with a fantastic demonstration by National Demonstrator Rose-Marie Tree, titled "Here it comes again". Vibrant traditional Christmas colours and sparkles filled the stage along with Father Christmas, Reindeer, Robins and even a Christmas Fairy, which was constructed completely of plant and seed head materials. The Three Wise Men arrangement, draped in silver and gold completed the evenings show.
Once the raffle for the arrangements was completed, Rose-Marie told us of her retirement from demonstrating and that we were her last!! We all wish her well in her retirement, but we don't think she will put her floristry scissors down for long.... once an arranger, always an arranger !!!.

David Thomson - "Colourful Christmas"
21st November 2012....

David worked in monochromatic colour harmonies (shades and hints of one colour). The arrangements and styles were very impressive. Not too much glitter or sparkle in the flower and plant material, the containers and stands provided the "shine" and glitz that accompanies the festive season.
David hails from Glasgow, where he had a Saturday-job delivering flowers for the local florist. On leaving school he qualified and worked as a lawyer in London. After a while his love of flowers took him to evening classes in floristry at Southwark College leading to a City and Guilds qualification and eventually teaching at the college himself.
He took the National Test in 2009 and now competes world wide, as far a field as Japan.
We had a splendid evening, entertained by great stories and encouraged to experiment with styles and colours along with some great hints on technique accompanied by tea and mince pies. !!!!!

Gill McGregor "Autumn Delight"
12th September 2012....

Our demonstration evening by Gill McGregor was full of inspirational fun, useful tips and humour.

Gill has always had a love of flowers and started as an 11 year old, competing in a local horticultural shows in the Children's Flower Arranging section. Then at 14 competing in the adult's section. All this guided her to a career in Floristry. On completing a training course at Tottenham Technical College, she went on to manage a shop in the West End of London. Gill returned to college to gain teaching qualifications, enabling her to continue working during the day then teaching at evening classes.

Her natural talent as a teacher has lead to her becoming Head of Floristry at Capel Manor College. Enfield. EN1 4RQ

As a N.A.F.A.S. Area Demonstrator her style, energy and spontaneous involvement of us, the audience, was very enjoyable.

At the end of the evening the stage sported bright and colourful arrangements, and everyone was eager to win a raffle prize!!! - including the "Homework" prize that consisted of flowers and foliage, the winner was asked to prepare an arrangement, then send photographs to Gill, who would then mark the display and send the winner a certificate...... our Pat won the prize, so more information on that later.

As a point of interest, Capel Manor College runs courses to suit everyone, and has beautiful gardens that are open to the public.

Lisa Howarth "New Beginnings" 11th July 2012....

Lisa studied horticulture at Cambridge Botanical Gardens and after gaining her degree moved into floristry. She now runs a very successful business in Sandy, Bedfordshire. She is a member of Biggleswade Flower Club, an Area Demonstrator, has been featured in 3 successive issues of NAFAS 's The Flower Arranger, and is now working towards her pre-national exams.

Lisa also runs day courses on flower arranging, through her shop ......01767 682286

The evening was brilliant, the style of the stunning arrangements was a cross between contemporary and continental. They were full of different textures and movement, with interesting contrasts and techniques. Throughout the demonstration we were given lots of valuable advice and "hints" on conditioning and wiring flowers, and use of the new oasis products. We were also shown how to "curve" calla-lilies, and the qualities of olive oil for shining leaves !!!! The raffle for the fabulous displays, at the end of the evening, was extremely well supported - not surprisingly....

Jackie Watson's "Summer in the Garden" demonstration - 13th June 2012....

Jackie provided us with an inspirational demonstration. She has had a love for flowers and all things that grow from childhood and this passion lead her into a career of floristry and garden design. Her success at Chelsea Flower Show speaks for itself.

Her arrangements referenced the gardens that she has visited and designed. It was easy to relate to all the experiences she described. Everyone wanted to win the raffle that night !!!!

Lois Gill's demonstration - 9th May 2012....

Here are a few photographs of her beautiful arrangements....

Vikki Trahearne's demonstration - 11th April 2012....

Vikki is a Home Counties demonstrator and is the area representative for demonstrators to NAFAS. Recently she was part of the team who decorated Westminster Abbey for the Commonwealth Service. Vikki treated us to a wonderful trip down memory lane, memories that we all related to.

Starting with a beautifully styled basket previously used by a fellow demonstrator and friend, who has sadly passed away. Then there was a magical trip through the streets and canals of Venice, using red roses, carnival masks and contorted canes. Stunningly simple.

This was followed by a sightseeing trip around New York, the arrangements depicted the skyscraper skyline. Another memory was the diner parties when sharing a London flat, drinking fashionable Blue Nunn and Mateus Rose. Then using the bottle time and time again as a candle holder.

Romance was part of the evening, cocktails whilst watching the incredible sunset over the Egyptian pyramids. Finally the stunning green and white arrangements denoted memories to come.

We all enjoyed the entertaining evening and left, inspired to continue flower arranging.

A Members Family Wedding - March 2012....

One of our members enjoyed a family wedding in March. Some of the flowers can be seen here and they were , of course, arranged by our members.

Pat Dibben's demonstration - 14th March 2012....

Pat Dibben is a National Demonstrator, judge and floral teacher. She has won gold at Chelsea Flower Show and will be entering again this year.
It is one of Pat's designs on the front cover of the latest (Spring 2012) NAFAS Flower Arranger magazine.

Last night (14th March 2012) Pat delighted and inspired everyone with her fabulous demonstration "Floral Profusion". Her varying styles and designs worked through colour harmonies using contrasting tropical plant materials and vibrant flowers all of which was enhanced by the use of material drapes

Each design was abundant with interesting textures and shapes. It was amazing to see what could be done with a bag of tropical leaves and manipulated and curled aspidestra leaves. By the end of the demonstration the stage was a beautifully coordinated symphony of colour.

At the end of the demonstration the arrangements, some of which are photographed below, were all raffled and taken home by some very happy group members.
