Coral Gardiner - Festive Highlights - November 2016

You can see some photographs of the evening by clicking the picture:

What a fantastic evening at our "Festive Highlights" demonstration last month. Coral Gardiner is certainly a very talented lady in both flower arranging and her story lines.... so very entertaining.

The arrangements were very ingenious, beautifully arranged and she did explain the elements of design, textures and forms along with space colour and form on each of her displays.

At the end of the evening the stage was certainly "Beginning to look a lot like Christmas" and the raffle was very popular.

Jo Poulter - Over the Rainbow - October 2016

You can see some photographs of the evening by clicking the picture:

On the 12th of October Jo Poulter took us on a colourful trip "Over The Rainbow". It was a lovely demonstration with some imaginative displays using beautiful choices of flowers. Each arrangement was accompanied by some very interesting rainbow facts along with very amusing stories.

Jo, a Chelsea exhibitor, runs a successful floral design service in her home town of Peterborough specialising in wedding and event flowers.

Her company is Bespoke Buds and if you would like to see more the website is: www.bespokebuds.com

Kate Thomas - Fifty Shades of Autumn - September 2016

You can see some photographs of the evening by clicking the picture:

The first demonstration after the summer break was a brilliant start to our autumn program. Kate Thomas's demonstration was titled "Fifty Shades of Autumn" and at the end of the evening not only had she brought the stage to life with unique, vibrant and ingenious designs, her presentation was friendly, informative and very entertaining.

It was obvious that she is very artistic and skilful at both very modern designs and the traditional arrangements.

Kate owns a very successful florist shop called Funky Flowers (by Kate Thomas) in Wokingham, Berkshire. So if you are ever in the area do drop in, or look her up on face book

Our 50th Celebrations - June 2016

You can see some photographs of the evening by clicking the picture:

On 11th May Hatch End Flower Arrangement Group hosted a prestigious evening to celebrate their 50th Anniversary, with a spectacular demonstration by National Demonstrator, Lorena Dyer. We were thrilled that so many club members both past and present and invited guests from neighbouring flower clubs were able to attend and enjoy our festivities. Unfortunately only one long serving founder member, Jean Guiver, was able to be present as the other one, Brenda Wheal, was on holiday. As was our President, Angela Patteson.

When we were planning the evening, some months before, we had great fun looking through the archives of photographs, newspaper clips, reports and listening to stories of the club's activities over the years.

The evening began with a warm welcome to everyone from our chairman, Linda Cherry, which was followed by a brief and amusing history of the club given by our founder member and one of our Vice Presidents, Jean Guiver.

Then came the traditional cake-cutting ceremony, when Jean was joined by Home Counties Chairman, Shirley Perkins, to perform the duty, followed by photographs of her and the committee.

After that, Lorena started her glamorous demonstration entitled "Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend" and before long the stage began to glisten with some phenomenal designs, each sparkling in their own exquisite and dazzling interpretation of the title.

Then it was time for a refreshing glass of bubbly and slice of cake. Once again our members' talents shone through, as both the delicious fruit cake and mouth-watering cupcakes were made and donated by our ladies.

Yet more gleaming gems of arrangements followed the break, along with some very entertaining stories from the very talented Lorena and at the end the stage had been transformed by her displays into a lustrous and extraordinary show.

Shirley Perkins kindly gave the vote of thanks to Lorena and to all the audience for their support on our special evening. I must say I thought Lorena Dyer's demonstration, cake and a glass of bubbly was the perfect combination for our celebration evening. Roll on the next one...

Neil Bains' - "Shaken not Stirred" - April 2016

You can see some photographs of the evening by clicking the picture:

On April 13th with Neil Bains (Area Demonstrator) we were certainly "Shaken not Stirred" by his James Bond theme. Neil has a wonderful style of arranging and an obvious enthusiasm for flowers and foliage alike and loves the "quirky" flowers along with natural materials.

His own garden is full of plants whose foliage can be used in arrangements. He has been a demonstrator since 2011 and actually studied the art of flower arranging through NAFAS. He now works with Judith Blacklock teaching others the skills of flower arranging and then training students who wish to be come florists. Neil also works in two florists shops.

It was very apparent that he is very strong on principles, elements, textures and contrasts. The final arrangement was an enormous hand-tie of white lilies and a mixture of foliage..... we all wanted to win that in the raffle.

He has a lovely, easy, relaxed way of demonstrating and loves to talk with the audience.

John Chennell's - "Seasonal Splendour" - March 2016

You can see some photographs of the evening by clicking the picture:

At our club meeting on the 9th of March we were very lucky to secure the services of the wonderful National Demonstrator John Chennell. His title for the evening was "Seasonal Splendour" and every one of his displays were certainly splendid.

His years of experience were very apparent as he effortlessly created some beautiful arrangements with the perfect choice of flowers, foliage and containers in imaginative "lines". I'm sure you would agree that we had a brilliant evening watching him work and listening to his stories.

Gill McGregor - "Inspired with Flowers" - January 2016

What a stupendous beginning to our meetings of 2016 ..Gill Mcgregor certainly gave us an evening to remember. Her talents as a florist, teacher, demonstrator and author, along with her true professionalism shone through in the stunning arrangements that filled our stage.

Gill arranged with such ease whilst explaining the flower and contrasting foliage choices. The varied stories were highly entertaining and memorable especially Zumba classes and Anthuriums! Her containers and stands were works of art in their own right, most of which Gill had made herself.

We have included this link to her website, so you can have a look at all the courses, videos and informative books that are available there:  gillmcgregor.com
